A-Lure Walleye Fishing Charters (440) 257-9544
When I started fishing Lake Erie
10 years ago. I was strictly a downrigger fishermen from
Lake Ontario. I had no idea what Planer Boards or Dipsy
Divers were or how to use them. Thanks to a great friend
and walleye fishermen, Steve Fielder, I learned how important
Dipsy Divers were for Catching Walleye in the Central Basin. The
summer of 1991, Steve taught and I quickly mastered running
six Dipsy's rods and four downriggers. I was so excited
about catching walleye, the next season, I decided to get a
bigger boat and a Captain's license. While I was successful
catching fish with Dipsy's and Downriggers my fellow Captain's
seemed to be doing better using a combination of Planer Boards,
Dipsys and Downriggers. Their program enable them to
run more rods, cover a wider spread and fish more depth which
produced more fish. That's all I needed to know!!!
My second year as a Captain,
eager to catch more walleye, the first thing I did was
invest in a good Planer Board Mast (Big Jon), Planner Boards
(Super Ski) and releases. I'm still using the same
mast and planner boards after 10 years!!! Following the
directions of fellow Captains and with practice I've mastered
the art of running Sixteen Rods with Planner Boards, Dipsy's
and Downriggers. In my opinion, this method of fishing
is much underutilized by many anglers. Speaking from experience,
planer boards have advantages not offered by any other
angling methods. No matter what the condition on
the lake, I run planer boards and with practice you can
too!!
Professional walleye fisherman
and Charter Captains must be successful and consistent
with catching fish, and as pros, planer boards offer us
this consistent methodology of catching fish. True, we
also use downriggers, and Dipsy programs, but the bread & butter
is the planer board!!

does an excellent job of explaining the basics of planner
board fishing!
