The improved clinch knot

A popular know among many anglers is the Improved Clinch Knot.  This knot is very easy to tie and can be used for connecting monofilament to swivels, hooks, lures or terminal tackle.  This knot is most effective on lines under 20-pound test.

Step 1  Simply pass the line through the eye of the hook, swivel, or lure.  Double back and make five-six turns around the main line. Then thread the tag end through the first loop above the eye (Figure 1). Some anglers loop the main line through the eye of the hook or swivel twice for added strength.

Step 2  Then pass through the big loop as shown in Figure 2.

Step 3  Wet the line with some saliva.  While holding the tag end and standing line begin pulling up the coils being careful that the coils are in a spiral, not overlapping each other.  Pull the knot tight against the end as shown in figure 3.

Step 4  Finish the knot by trimming the loose end.
